Lake Aldwell

Lake Aldwell Dredging ProjectThe Washington Bureau of Reclamation hired URS Corporation to help study the sediments at some of the deepest areas behind the Elwha Dam. This Dam is slated for demolition and the lake will once again become a river. Because of the unique challenge of extracting a 40 ton sediment sample from depths exceeding 90’, without contaminating the water column URS called on TMT to provide a solution.

TMT would have to operate in an inhospitable environment, with extremely high water flows, difficult pipeline deployments through dense forest, unforgiving January weather and complete the job on a very tight schedule with no room for delay. TMT accepted the challenge and used a 4” Eddy Pump to pump the material up 90’ to the water surface and then through 1,700’ of 6” discharge pipe snaking across the water and through 1,000’ of forest and into 2 large storage tanks.

Conclusions:

TMT has the experience and capability to provide cost effective custom solutions to material handling and transport problems.

TMT’s modular equipment design makes transport a straightforward operation. The Tornado 3 was shipped from San Diego to Port Angeles Washington with no problems.

Materials were removed with little turbidity at depths exceeding 90’

TMT’s equipment and personnel were able to operate during the harshest time of the year and complete work on schedule.
